BECOMING A MEMBER

Joining as a member of the CCSHA is a very easy process and can be completed online via our Shop, or by downloading a Membership Form and returning it via email or post. Our membership year runs from the 1st July to the 30th June.

Membership Categories

1. Full Membership – allows member to register horses and/or a stud prefix and compete at Clydesdale Cross events. It also provides member with full voting rights at the CCSHA AGM
2. Junior Membership – for members 18 years and under. Junior members are unable to have a horse registered in their name or vote at the AGM but are able to compete at Clydesdale Cross events with a registered horse
3. Associate Membership – for those wanting to compete at Clydesdale Cross events with a registered horse. Associate members are unable to have a horse registered in their name or vote at the AGM
4. Family Membership – covers 2 adults and juniors 18 years and under. Members must be from the same family.

REGISTERING YOUR HORSE

The CCSHA offers registries for Sport Horses, as well as those eligible for the Stud Book. Since our inception in 2004, we have over 1000 Clydesdale Crosses on our records.

This extensive database enables us to track the history of the Clydie Cross throughout Australia and provides horse owners with confirmation of breeding, age and background. The CCSHA encourages all horse owners to participate in responsible breeding and horse ownership practices and we believe that registration is a key part of this process.

Once entered in the permanent registries, horses remain registered for life. If the registered owner lets their membership lapse at any time, the registration will be suspended.

If the name you have chosen is already registered, you will be contacted via email and asked to choose an alternative name. Please refer to the list of names currently in use to assist you with your choice.

Sport Horse Registration

The Sport Horse registry is open to ALL geldings, horses with less than 25% proven Clydesdale heritage, and for horses that do NOT contain a registered, purebred Clydesdale in their breeding.

Horses under 2 years of age may be recorded as foals OR can be accepted into the adult / permanent Sport Horse register. If registering a stallion, please refer to the Stallion Registration section. Horses must be either microchipped or branded to be accepted into the adult register.

To ensure that our registers only include horses with Clydesdale in their heritage, Sport Horse owners must provide at least 2 forms of evidence when applying for registration. Acceptable forms of proof may include but are not limited to: registration certificates from other breed/colour societies, service certificates from breeders, copies of sire/dam’s registration papers, letters from breeders or previous owners, photos of sire or dam, Statutory Declarations, etc.

NOTE: Stallions without proven breeding are NOT eligible for registration with the CCSHA.

If owners do not have proof that their mare or gelding is Clydesdale Cross, they can apply to have them Classified by the CCSHA Committee. One of the aims of the Classification process is to determine if the horse exhibits true Clydesdale Cross traits/characteristics. Owners will need to provide all available information they have regarding the horse’s history and a series of photos that clearly show that the horse exhibit Clydesdale Cross characteristics.

Foal Recording

Breeders and owners with horses under 2 years of age are eligible to Foal Record their young stock in either the Sport Horse or Stud Book registers. By the time the horse reaches its 2^nd birthday, they must be upgraded to the adult/permanent registry or their registration will be cancelled. If a Foal Recording lapses, a new application will need to be submitted and full registration fees are payable.

Please refer to the information provided in the Stud Book and Sport Horse sections for eligibility and evidence requirements. Foals are not required to be microchipped or branded, however this must be completed when upgrading to the adult registers.

Stud Book Registration

The Stud Book is open to mares and stallions that have a minimum of 25% REGISTERED Clydesdale in their breeding – this means that the sire or dam, OR at least one grandparent is a REGISTERED Clydesdale.

Owners wishing to register a horse in the Stud Book must provide a copy of the purebred Clydesdale’s registration certificate and / or a copy of the service certificate issued by the breeder. Horses must be either microchipped or branded to be accepted into the adult register.

Fillies and colts under 2 years of age may be recorded as foals OR can be accepted into the adult / permanent Stud Book register. If registering a stallion, please refer to the Stallion Registration section.

Stallion Registration

In our effort to promote responsible breeding practices and increase the quality of stallions registered with the CCSHA, all new stallion registrations and upgrades from Foal Recordings MUST undergo Classification by the CCSHA Committee.

As well as complying with all of the eligibility and evidence requirements listed in the sections above, persons wanting to register stallions over 2 years of age MUST:

1. Complete a Classification form, provide the required photographs and have their application reviewed by the CCSHA Committee
2. Provide a Certificate of Stallion Soundness that has been completed by a registered Veterinarian, to confirm that the horse does not exhibit congenital abnormalities or health issues that could be passed to progeny
3. Provide evidence that the stallion is part Clydesdale
4. Pay the associated fees

REGISTERING YOUR STUD

For those breeding Clydesdale Crosses, we encourage you to reserve your Stud Prefix (or Suffix) and brand for exclusive use. Once registered, you are able to include that name in all horse registrations and no other person will be permitted to duplicate or replicate the same name.

Once we receive your application, stud prefixes are registered for life. If the stud owner lets their membership lapse at any time however, the prefix registration will be suspended.

All Studs registered with the CCSHA are invited to place a free advertisement on the CCSHA website. This is a great opportunity for potential buyers and mare owners to learn about your stud and get in contact with you.
